A lawsuit against the Los Angeles Police Department has been filed in state court.

It alleges that the LAPD has an unconstitutional and aggressive policy for police officers who stop a suspected stolen vehicle.

KNX News’ Craig Fiegener reported that the three plaintiffs all say L.A. police mistakenly pulled them over.

“On February 8, 2020, my friend Shibani and I were subjected to a high-risk traffic stop,” Sheilanee Sen, one of the plaintiffs, said. “I was held at gunpoint and handcuffed as I laid in the middle of the street, surrounded by at least 10 LAPD officers, armed. The LAPD mistakenly believed that the U-haul Shibani rented for a move was stolen.”

All three plaintiffs said they were traumatized during the stops.

“On November 9th of last year, I was pulled over by an army of LAPD officers in which they held me at gunpoint. They ordered me to the ground. A few of the officers had shotguns and there was also a helicopter that circled overhead,” Bulough King Mohammed, another plaintiff, said. “This has been the most traumatizing event in my life, as they treated me like a violent criminal although I did nothing wrong.”

Attorney Brian Olney said the LAPD has a deliberate policy that violates the Constitution on a daily basis.

The lawsuit isn’t seeking monetary damages. It’s demanding significant changes to department policy.
