Police shot and killed a man at the end of a chase on the 405 Freeway in Westchester early Friday morning, prompting closures in the northbound lanes.
Around 4:15 a.m., officers responded to a reported robbery in the 5800 block of West Manchester Ave. According to multiple reports, a Yellow Cab driver reported that he was threatened at gunpoint by the suspect.
The suspect took off in a black Kia Soul and a chase ensured before coming to an end on the northbound 405, where the suspect stopped along the center divider and got out with a gun.
“We attempted to give him commands initially to get out of the vehicle, and then he fled and attempted to evade the officers,” LAPD Captain Mike Bland said.
That's when the suspect, described only as an adult male, was shot and killed by police.
While the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway are open, the northbound 405 are closed at Howard Hughes Parkway. Officers say roads and ramps near LAX in Westchester will be closed for another three to four hours so officials can investigate.
Caltrans says the backup extends beyond the 105 Freeway to Rosecrans Avenue.
