Get ready for a taste of summer: temperatures in Los Angeles County are set to spike in the next several days.

Meteorologist Dave Gomberg with the National Weather Service tells KNX News’ Pete Demetriou a high-pressure system will send temperatures soaring 10 or more degrees in the valleys over the next three days, and seven to eight degrees in the basin.

While downtown L.A. is only expected to reach 79 degrees, the San Fernando Valley will hit the mid-80s, and desert areas like Lancaster and Palmdale may see triple digits.

“We’ve posted excessive heat watches for those interior areas – for our region, Antelope Valley, but it also extends across all the desserts of Southern and Central California,” Gomberg said.

For those heading outdoors, don’t forget the sunscreen – the UV index could reach 10 on Thursday.
