
An investigation was continuing Tuesday into the death of former Sen. Mitt Romney's sister-in-law, who apparently fell or jumped from a five-story parking garage near the Valencia Town Center mall.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Carrie Elizabeth Romney, 64, of Valencia, was found dead around 9 p.m. Friday in the 24000 block of Town Center Drive. A cause of death was pending an investigation by the county Medical Examiner.
Mitt Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts and a U.S. senator from Utah, was the Republican presidential nominee in 2012 but lost to Democrat Barack Obama. Carrie Romney was married to Romney's brother, Scott.
Mitt Romney issued a statement to media outlets saying, "Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives. We ask for privacy during this difficult time."
