Little Tokyo residents are outraged by plans to build a 44-story high-rise on the fringes of their community.
The group Little Tokyo Against Gentrification says the 1500-unit mixed residential and commercial project, proposed by Denver-based Continuum Partners, is out of character with the community and would be dangerous to the health of people living near the site.
“What we see is seven years of construction dust getting into the lungs of our children at the childcare center and of our seniors in Little Tokyo Towers, the largest low-income Asian housing unit on the west coast,” David Monkowa told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou.
The proposed development would be located at 4th St. and Central Ave., at the current site of L.A. Cold Storage.

LTAG is asking the city planning commission and Councilmember Kevin de León to halt the project until a revised environmental impact report is generated.
