It might be hard to fathom that someone could throw living puppies in the trash, but that's precisely what happened in the San Gabriel Valley on Sunday.

It all started when a San Dimas bakery employee heard barking from a nearby dumpster at a business complex on North Cataract Avenue.

After discovering three puppies, the Good Samaritan posted about the abandoned animals on a Facebook group called "Lost and Found Pets of La Verne and San Dimas" to ask for help.

That's when Carolyn Castro, an admin for the page, got involved.

Castro tells KNX News' Emily Valdez, "I brought them home. I noticed that they were infested with ticks, [so] I took them to the Village Mutt in Claremont, which is this dog grooming place."

She said, thankfully, the owner was there after hours and allowed her to address the pups' tick issues.

Castro said they were scared at first but are eating now, and she believes they warmed up because they know their lives are about to change.

"I found a foster that they went to, So they're there right now, and they're doing good," Castro reports, but the three German shepherds, who are several months old, still need more help.

Castro said she teamed up with Big Dog Haven Rescue to hopefully find the dogs a permanent home.

They're also looking for any surveillance video that might help identify who dumped them in the trash.

Anyone interested in adopting them is urged to call Big Dog Haven.
