A Rapid Transit project that could connect the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valley’s metro project for the first time is gaining some momentum. Nataly Tavidian reported on how the long-planned project is going today on KNX:
“It’s been on-again, off-again, hitting some road blocks, especially during the pandemic,” she said of the project.
According to the Pasadena Star-News, the 19-mile project was first proposed in 2017. During the pandemic, financial challenges and opposition contributed to a stall in its progress.
“We think of it as a light-rail on rubber tires,” explained Scott Hartwell, the LA Metro countywide planner overseeing the project’s design and environmental studies, per the News-Star.
It is similar in concept to the G Line (Orange Line) in the San Fernando Valley. The route would go from the North Hollywood B/G Lines (Red/Orange) station to the Memorial Park A Line Station in Old Pasadena, then continue in general purpose lanes in Pasadena on Colorado Boulevard to Hill Street/Pasadena City College.
Officials said it should speed up travel times in the area.
