A recall campaign has been launched against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

The Los Angeles Times reported that paperwork was filed with the state last week and with L.A.’s Ethics Commission on Monday. The outlet also reported that real estate agent Sahil Nandwani was named the recall committee’s principal officer.

Bass received backlash for being out of the country even after forecasters predicted Southern California would have extreme fire conditions. There are also some people who are angry about her decision to fire the fire chief.

Sara Sadwhani, a political science assistant professor from Pomona College, told KNX News’ Jon Baird that a recall doesn’t look highly likely.

“Recalls tend to be incredibly expensive and time-consuming, both for those collecting signatures as well as for the city itself.” she said.

A resident in the Palisades told Barid she’s not in favor of the recall.
“I think we should be focused on helping people get back in their homes, and I think the mayor should be too,” she said. “Let her do her job.”

Baird reported it would take 330,000 valid signatures to get Bass recalled.

In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, Douglas Herman, a political strategist for Bass, said the recall effort is “nothing more than another extreme right-wing political stunt designed to divide Los Angeles when we need to move forward.”
