20 restaurants impacted by Eaton Fire each receive $10k grant from DoorDash

Mom-and-pop restaurants struggling because of the Eaton Fire received financial help on Friday.

Outside the burned-down Amara Kitchen in Altadena, 20 restaurant owners received $10,000 from DoorDash and Hello Alice. The grants can be used for payroll, repairing damages, rent, or anything else these mom-and-pop shops need to stay in business.


Maggie Polichek, who does social impact for DoorDash, told KNX News’ Karen Adams that small businesses are the backbone of the community.

“When small mom-and-pop independent restaurants are hit hard, that really hurts the whole community, and so we feel it's part of our mission to support restaurants when they are having tough times, especially after natural disasters,” she said.

One of the recipients said receiving the grant was “tremendously meaningful.”

“We are the last people to ask for help, but thank you to DoorDash, the supervisor, [and] the community for understanding that we need it too,” she said.

Karen Clemons, owner of Mother Moo Creamer, told Adams that business has been slow.

“It's not good. It's not better,” she said. “It's sustaining because we were doing better. And then this month…compared to last May, we're not hitting our marker, and this grant will help.”
