Barstow Police said the five minors, who are between 11 and 17 years old, lived with their aunt and uncle for four years in Rialto. The victims told police about the “various forms of physical abuse and torture including branding, strangulation, and being shot with pellet guns.”

“Forensic medical examinations were completed and physical evidence including scarring consistent with the victims’ account of the abuse,” Rialto Police said.

Police told KNX News the children's parents sent them to live with the couple.

On May 25, officers arrested Jessica Salas-Ruiz, 26, and Fernando Inzunza, 36. The couple were booked into the West Valley Detention Center on multiple counts of corporal punishment of a child. Inzunza faces an additional charge of torture.

Police said the children are now in the care of San Bernardino County Children Services.
