Life-saving measures were immediately administered to the year-old girl at the scene before she was taken to a hospital. Sheriff's officials said medical personnel informed deputies that the baby girl sustained multiple unspecified injuries, prompting LASD Special Victims Bureau and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services to conduct an investigation.
One sibling of the girl was placed into protective custody, officials said.
Investigators located the child's mother, 20-year-old Leslie Garcia, on Nov. 12 and subsequently charged with assault on a child becoming comatose or paralyzed and willful cruelty to a child. Garcia was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Three days after Garcia's arrest, the year-old girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The father, 21-year-old Jonathan Salazar, was arrested Friday and booked on suspicion of murder. He was being held in lieu of $5 million bail. She is due back in court for arraignment Dec. 18, according to court records.
Sheriff's officials said their investigation of Salazar has been presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, pending formal charges.
