There was a close call for some construction workers in the Rampart District Monday when scaffolding on the outside of a six-story apartment building collapsed. While no one was hurt, KNX News' Emily Valdez reports the collapse left many without power.
Firefighters at the scene on Berendo Street, just south of Beverly Boulevard, said rain and the weight of tarps covering the scaffolding likely caused the failure.

L.A. Fire Department Captain Bryan Willis said, "It collapsed on top of a transformer and knocked out a bunch of power lines," leaving about 1,000 people without power and knocking out traffic lights in the area, creating a mess for drivers.

Luckily, while work was being done inside the building, there were no workers on the scaffolding at the time of the collapse.
No injuries were reported, and LADWP crews arrived quickly to get things back up and running.
