A search was underway Tuesday for two boaters missing off the coast of Palos Verdes Estates after their boat was found capsized on rocks.
Jake Miller with the L.A. County Fire Department told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou that the two men, both around 50 years old, left Carbillo on Monday night to go hoop netting in the Palos Verdes area.
“They were supposed to be due back around midnight last night,” he said.
L.A. County lifeguards and fire rescue personnel responded to the area shortly after 5:30 a.m.
“We've searched up coast and down coast of the area here,” Miller told Demetriou. “We did a shoreline search on foot. We had our Baywatch rescue boats out there. We had a drone search and we also used our rescue watercraft to kind of traverse the surf area here.”
Miller added that the surf conditions are very hazardous.
“We have about 8 to 10 feet surf, which makes searching difficult,” he said.

As of 2 p.m., there were no sign of the men. Demetriou reported that the lifeguards and the Palos Verdes Police will do periodic patrols until they find the two men.
A high surf warning was issued in L.A. County and Ventura County on Monday and Tuesday. Waves in L.A. County and Southern Santa Barbara County were expected to be between eight to 12 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
