The attack happened at 8:30 p.m. inside Mile Square Park, the Fountain Valley Police Department said. The extent of the child’s injuries have not been revealed at this time.

Police said the attack was “not immediately reported” and that the initial efforts to finding the coyote were “unsuccessful.”

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife were contacted and are now leading the investigation to find and euthanize the coyote.

This is the second time a child was attacked by a coyote in recent months. In May, a coyote attacked a young girl in Huntington Beach. The coyote was found dead by law enforcement officials on Dog Beach hours later.
