Section of Angeles National Forest reopens after storm repair damage

A section of Angeles Crest Highway between Mt. Wilson Red Box Road and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest has been reopened to the public, Caltrans announced Monday.

The roadway, also known as SR-2, had been closed since March of 2023 to repair extensive storm damage, according to Caltrans.

Repairs included:

-- scaling the slopes to remove loose rocks and material;

-- disposal of the slide debris;

-- reconstructing a slope drapery protection system;

-- repairing the washed-out slope;

-- replacing drainage; and

-- repairing the washed-out roadway.

According to Caltrans, the same section of SR-2 will close again in August for several days for final road work. More information is available at https://twitter.com/CaltransDist7.
