Bob Kay moved into Belmont Village Senior Living in Encino after losing everything in the Palisades Fire. His daughter Emily’s dance studio, Fancy Feet, was also destroyed.
“A couple weeks in, we’re thinking of ways that we can give back,” Abby Trexler, the senior living facility’s executive director, told KNX News’ Margaret Carrero. “We’re also thinking of ways to have some fun and thought this would be a wonderful way to do both.”
Belmont Village decided to host a talent show along with an art show and silent auction to raise money to rebuild the studio. Kay tap-danced in the talent show with his daughter and granddaughters.
“This means a lot to me because it’s because of Emily’s, watching her and everything, that I decided years ago that I wanted to take tap dance,” Kay said.
Trexler praised Bob’s resilience in the face of tragedy.
“He has this sunny disposition. I’ve never once seen him complain, and he’s just showed gratitude,” she said.
A GoFundMe has also been set up to help Fancy Feet Dance Studio rebuild. As of Friday afternoon, it’s raised over $57,000 toward its $135,000 goal.
