The disturbing allegations of sexual assault against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer are detailed in court documents published by a news outlet on Wednesday.
An accuser identified as a 27-year-old woman lays out accusations of assault by Bauer, on two separate occasions that began as consensual encounters, in a request for a restraining order which was obtained by The Athletic.
The 67-page document includes graphic images showing the victim bruised and bloodied, according to The Athletic's Britt Ghiroli. The encounters with the 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner left the alleged victim with "significant head and facial trauma," including a skull fracture, the victim claims.
Major League Baseball announced on Friday that Trevor Bauer was being placed on administrative leave.
MLB's full statement said:
"MLB's investigation into the allegations made against Trevor Bauer is ongoing. While no determination in the case has been made, we have made the decision to place Mr. Bauer on seven-day administrative leave effective immediately. MLB continued to collect information in our ongoing investigation concurrent with the Pasadena Police Department's active criminal investigation. We will comment further at the appropriate time."
Bauer's reps declined to comment for the story, the report said, instead citing a statement released on Tuesday by his agent claiming the relationship was consensual and their text history proved as much.
In the restraining order document, the alleged victim says she twice drove from where she lived in San Diego to Bauer's home in Pasadena, after they had met online. They had consensual rough sex, she says, but Bauer escalated things beyond what she wanted or asked for, including choking her until she was unconscious, and penetrating her anally and punching her repeatedly while she was unconscious.
She says she was diagnosed with an acute head injury and deemed to have been assaulted by manual strangulation, the report said.
The Washington Post's baseball reporter Chelsea Janes tweeted a statement from Marc Garelick, the attorney representing the woman who obtained an order of protection against Bauer. Garelick said, "The order is a result of a recent assault that took place at the hands of Mr. Bauer where [our client] suffered severe physical and emotional pain."
"Our goal is to keep Mr. Bauer from contacting our client in any way possible. We anticipate there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and it is our hope law enforcement will take our client’s allegations and case seriously."
Police in Pasadena confirmed the alleged assaults were being investigated, The Athletic reported.
Dodgers beat reporter for MLB.com Juan Toribio tweeted a statement from The Dodgers on Tuesday.
The statement read, "The Dodgers were made aware of the allegations against Trevor Bauer late this afternoon and immediately contacted Major League Baseball, which will be handling this matter. The Dodgers take any allegations of this nature very seriously, but will have no further comment at this time."
