When it comes to preparing for the storm and atmospheric river, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna told L.A.’s Morning News the department is ready to go.

“We are ready to roll,” he said. “We've been preparing for this and that’s the entire county as a matter of fact. Police, fire, everybody else.”

Luna added that the department has been prepared since the National Weather Service  made it clear that it was going to be a “significant concerning event.”

“So we do deploy the members of our department typically in areas that are prone to mudslides, flooding, and things of that nature,” he said. “So that's the way we started, but we also have backup plans to not only support anywhere else in the county here within our jurisdiction, assisting other county agencies and police departments, but ready to respond outside the county if we need to.”

He also said that in addition to helping out with the impacts of the storm, deputies will still handle routine calls.

“We're patrolling and the deputies are asked to patrol these areas where we usually have challenges,, where it floods where you have the mudslides, and everything else,” he said. “So they're out there, boots on the ground, risking their lives at times to make sure that everybody is safe.”
