Sherman Oaks margarita spot Casa Vega wins James Beard 'America's Classics' award

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Sherman Oaks Mexican restaurant Casa Vega, has been named one of six winners of the James Beard Foundation’s “America’s Classics” award.

The restaurant, which first opened in 1956, one the award on Feb. 16, which is given to restaurants that have a “timeless appeal and are beloved regionally for quality food that reflects the character of its community.”

The joint is known for its broad menu and margaritas, as well as being a hang-out for stars. Early regular diners included Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, Dean Martin, and Desi Arnaz.

Modern-day Casa Vega fans include Charlize Theron, Sandra Bullock, the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, and director Quentin Tarantino. All have margaritas on the menu named after them.

Casa Vega was the only California restaurant on this year’s winners’ list.
