Smoke alarm alerts family to early-morning Mission Viejo house fire

A smoke alarm is being credited with a family's escape from a house fire Wednesday morning in Mission Viejo.

The blaze broke out about 4:30 a.m. in a two-story home in the 27000 block of Arena Lane, according to the Orange County Fire Authority, whose crews put out the flames in about 30 minutes.

"Crews checked for fire extension and performed salvage operations to protect belongings," according to an OCFA statement. "No injuries were reported, and the Red Cross has been requested to assist the residents."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
