A Southern California teenager is raising money to build a community center in Ghana.
Khloe Thompson, 16, told KNX News’ Margaret Carrero she was gifted land in Ghana a few years ago. Now that she’s able to use the land, she wants to give the people the same resources she gets here in the United States.
“We're building a community center that will host different just activities when it comes to the arts and different programs,” she said. “Almost like a trade school, but more art-reliant. But it also will stretch from things all the way to nursing and things like culinary. So it still gives those opportunities to the kids out there that we have out here.”
She said Ghana has a special place in her heart.
“The people there are so welcoming and they make you feel as if you're at home,” she said. “I have family who live there. My grandma, she's been traveling there since who knows how long and so I've always felt like a connection to there.”
