More than a thousand flights were canceled in and out of London’s Heathrow Airport due to an explosion and fire nearby and that has ruined some travel plans for some passengers flying out of LAX.

At least 1,350 flights to and from Heathrow were canceled, according to the Associated Press. KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that at least eight of the flights in and out of LAX from Heathrow were canceled and at least one flight was delayed.

Damian from Sacramento told Baird he was on a flight that had to turn around during the trip.

“We're about four-and-a-half hours into our flight and the pilot just turned around and said, ‘We're headed back because of the fire in Heathrow,’” he said.

Christy from Ontario, Canada was also on board that flight.

“It took us nine hours to go halfway and then come back,” she said, adding that they arrived at LAX at 1 a.m.

Now, she says they have to make other arrangements.

“We think we might have to eliminate London altogether and if we find a flight, it's gonna be straight to Scotland, which was our second stop on our trip,” she said.

Jay, another passenger, told Baird he was supposed to head home to London.

“I slept here on the floor the whole night...and I've still got no information at all [about] what's going to happen or when I'm going back home,” he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
