South Bay restaurant plans to provide 1,000 free holiday meals to out of work local industry workers - Find out how to get a meal

A restaurant in the South Bay is planning to provide 1,000 free holiday meals to out of work local industry workers.

Blindsided by the closure of outdoor dining from LA County and the state, the owner partners of The Strand House in Manhattan Beach wanted to do something to give back.

"It's just so devastating to see people pick up their final checks the day before Thanksgiving," says operating partner Michael Zislis. He says they decided to feed 1,000 families of those affected in the South Bay restaurant scene – a decision with a three-fold impact.

"We get to help people who are furloughed. We get to bring some, half of our employees back for a few weeks and the third fold is it just makes everybody feel better in the company and lifts their spirits that we are doing something instead of just stuck at home," he says.

The packaged ‘to go’ meals will include oven-roasted turkey breast, a salad, dessert and more. They are being offered to those who worked for a South Bay restaurant and were laid off or terminated as a result of the pandemic. The first 1,000 people to email The Strand House will be given a date and time for pickup.

To receive a meal, anyone who worked for a restaurant in the South Bay Los Angeles cities of Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, El Segundo & Playa Del Rey in 2020 and was laid off or had their employment terminated as a result of the pandemic, can email their most recent pay stub to holidaymeals@thestrandhousemb.com. The first 1,000 people to send in emails will be provided with a date and time to pick up their meals.
