Boxes of french fries scattered on 5 Freeway, prompted closures

The southbound lanes on the 5 Freeway near Stadium Way were closed Thursday morning after a big rig crashed, causing boxes of French fries to spill out onto the road.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m., according to KTLA.


Just before 5:50 a.m. California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the closure of all lanes fo the 5 Freeway.

At 9 a.m. CHP announced on X, formerly Twitter, that the SigAlert would be in effect through 10 a.m. But at 10:11 a.m., CHP said all lanes would be blocked for two more hours.

All lanes reopened around 1:35 p.m.

Drivers are asked to seek an alternate route.
