Southern California is still waiting for its first major rainstorm of the season, which is keeping the vegetation dry and the wildfire risk high.

The region’s rainfall is about an inch and a half behind where it usually is at this time of the year. While some rain may fall this weekend, it won't be enough to lower the fire risk – and meteorologist Brian Lewis with the National Weather Service says the winds will be picking up again next week.

“Tuesday and Wednesday look like the strongest San Ana winds as of right now,” he told KNX News. “And then with that, we are looking at a warm-up in temperatures as well.”

It's still too early to know if those winds will trigger another red flag warning.

Forecasters predict the fire threat will drop to a more normal level in January, which is usually the second wettest month of the year.
