LOS ANGELES (KNX) – Some of SAG-AFTRA’s most notable members took part in a video urging fellow members to vote “yes” on a strike authorization.
The video, released Monday, features actors such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kumail Nanjiani, Daveed Diggs. and Sophia Bush and explains why members should vote yes to a strike in the event talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers stall.
“It just means we give the National Board the power to strike if the AMPTP does not give our members the essential contract improvements they need,” “Hacks” star Jean Smart said.

Voting yes is NOT a vote to strike. It gives the board the POWER to strike if the AMPTP doesn’t agree to the essential contract improvements our members need.

Other actors in the video say compensation and residuals are at stake in this next negotiation process. Another issue is the use artificial intelligence.
“We also need protections against the unregulated use of our likeness and voices in AI,” “Blindspotting” actor Rafael Casal said in the video.
The union is expected to begin negotiations with the AMPTP on June 7. Their contract expires June 30,
SAG-AFTRA represents more than 160,000 actors, background actors, journalists, and other entertainers and media professionals.
The last time the union went on strike was in 1980.
