We're not sure how health czar Robert F. Kennedy Jr feels about a big, juicy burger, but we do know that Steak ’n Shake has appointed Michael Boes, a senior adviser from Make America Healthy Again, to an executive role.
Boes, who previously worked under RFK as the chief MAHA officer, and says in the private sector he'll focus the cheesy burger joint with thick, sweet shakes on advancing nutritional integrity, ingredient transparency, and the healthiness of products.
“Customers should never have to choose between taste and health,” Boes said in a statement touting Steak ’n Shake’s ingredient transparency. “When restaurants commit to both, they serve better food and they build lasting trust,” he added.
This comes after the company made headlines last year for moving from vegetable oil to beef tallow to flash fry their French fries.
But how far will they go to meet health goals? Boes expressed his excitement about joining Steak ’n Shake as the industry's first Chief MAHA Officer, emphasizing the importance of "real, simple, and delicious food" in the fast-food industry.
He said the company aims to restore the "essence" of American fast food.
The first of his kind in this role, Boes announced his new position at Steak ’n Shake on LinkedIn, highlighting his commitment to driving growth while staying true to delicious food.
Sardar Biglari, Chairman and CEO of Biglari Holdings, the owner of Steak ‘n Shake, said the decision to appoint a Chief MAHA Officer will continue to make the restaurant the “good differentiator” in fast food.
“Michael is ideally suited for such a role, with his deep understanding of nutrition and his experience at the highest level of health policymaking,” Biglari added.
“To put it simply, good-tasting food should also be good for you.”
