REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (KNX) — Students at Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach participated in a walk-out on Wednesday morning, protesting what they believe are substandard COVID-19 safety protocols on campus.

The walk out occurred at around 10:20 a.m.

"These guidelines are fine, but what's the point if they're not being enforced," said Michael Lee Chang, a senior, told Fox L.A. "The largest clubs are still meeting at lunch indoors. You know, we're afraid. I'm seeing eight through 18 students missing from each of my classes right now. Most because they're out from COVID, but some because they're not comfortable dealing with the current problem of students who test positive for COVID or were exposed to it still attending school."

Redondo Beach school district officials have said they're doing everything they can to keep students safe and healthy at school. Last week, at-home COVID-19 test kits were distributed. Students were asked to take one on Sunday before returning to class for the spring 2022 semester.

Aerial footage captured by Sky5 indicated at least several dozen students participating in the walk out.
