A man who led authorities on a chase Tuesday in a vehicle that was reported stolen was taken into custody in the Whittier Narrows area.
The Kia was reported stolen out of Compton, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
About 7 a.m., deputies were seen chasing the vehicle on surface streets in the East Los Angeles area, and the pursuit went to the area of Paramount Boulevard and Slauson Avenue.
About 7:30 a.m., the vehicle stopped in a business parking lot near Walnut Grove Avenue and Rush Street, and the man got out and walked away. A short time later, he got back in and began driving off. The vehicle was bumped by a law enforcement vehicle, but the suspect kept going.
A few minutes later, the vehicle stopped near Chico Avenue and Remer Street in the Whittier Narrows area, and it was boxed in by law enforcement vehicles. After a brief standoff, the suspect got out and surrendered about 7:40 a.m. His name was not immediately available for release.
