A suspect was wounded Monday when El Monte police opened fire during a confrontation tied to a stolen vehicle investigation, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 11:45 a.m. Monday in the area of Garvey and New Deal avenues, according to El Monte police Sgt. Jacob Burse.
No officers were injured, and the suspect was hospitalized in stable condition, Burse said.
Further details about the individual were not immediately available.
It was unclear what prompted the gunfire, and the shooting remained under investigation.
