Tax filing season is still a hassle for many people, and it won't get better any time soon - You can blame our complicated tax code, which gives big business to accountants and big headaches for many filers.
Orange County-based tax professional Karla Dennis told KNX News' Chief Correspondent Charles Feldman that the system is such a tangled web because we all can't seem to get on the same page about how to fix it.
Dennis said the endless debate seems to center around if it should be a flat tax - a tax system where one tax rate is applied to all levels of income. "It really becomes a matter of those individuals that work as W-2 wage earners, they're all for a flat tax. Business owners are like, no, I wanna take my deductions. So I just think we're splitting hairs on this probably for a very long time," said Dennis.

This year, the IRS is making things a little easier for those who qualify for free and straightforward returns. They're partnering with TurboTax, H&R Block and the other big filing sites to offer a direct file option.
Another big benefit is that it will be able to fill in all the information on your paperwork that it already knows.
