On Thursday, volunteers at the Terranea Resort packed up hundreds of Thanksgiving meals for residents in Rancho Palos Verdes who are affected by the land movement.

Mayor John Cruikshank told KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian that the community is super generous.

“ I want to say there's at least 10 to 15 that are here to do the packaging of the meals when the deliveries start happening,” he said. “I want to say there's at least 20 to 25 of our residents that have come out and going to be driving. There's almost as many residents as there are homes to deliver to so you know, you’re not going to have a lot of meals per car, but that just shows the generosity of our community.”

One of those volunteering was Nancy.

“So I thought since I know the roads and I'm familiar with the people and I'm also a recipient and a deliverer, fill multiple roles – why not do this on Thanksgiving Day?” she told Tavidian.

Karinn, one of those receiving the food deliveries, said it’s amazing to see how people have come together during this time.

“Meeting on Fridays or Sundays or whenever it is [is] something we really never did before moving, it's touching,” she said. “What's happened to our beautiful, beautiful jewel of Portuguese Bend is very heartfelt.”

Mayor Cruikshank added that there are more than 200 homes that don’t have gas service and that the public works department and city geologists have found ways to pull water out of the landslide area to slow down the land movement.

“I think residents know that the city is doing all it can right now to slow the movement down and get people back to normalcy and this Thanksgiving dinner that's going out to them is even another way to say thank you for your patience and happy holidays,” he said.
