A conflict is brewing between the Los Angeles City Council and the LA28 Olympic organizing committee over the location of sailing events.

"The original proposals were sailing in San Pedro," Council member Tim McOsker told KNX News' Craig Fiegener. "It was back before my term in office that this venue plan moved sailing to Long Beach," he explained.

McOsker said that the council approved a venue plan that moved other events out of L.A., but it did so on the condition that sailing be brought back to San Pedro Bay.

Despite this condition, sailing events are still slated to occur in Long Beach.

The council member indicated that this discrepancy has created a significant point of contention.

"Well, there are provisions in the contract for resolving disputes. That will be a dispute," McOsker declared. "That will be LA28 saying to the unanimous city council that your approval either didn't count, or we're going to ignore a provision of your approval."

McOsker suggested the city might pursue an arbitration hearing to resolve the issue.

This development comes alongside news that equestrian events, initially planned for Temecula's Galway Downs following the council's late March venue plan approval, have now been moved to Santa Anita.

Ken Smith, the owner of Galway Downs was surprised by the decision, saying in a statement that he thought the council's approval of the venue plan essentially sealed the deal.

Smith describes this removal from the list as sudden and something he doesn't understand.
