The New York Times didn't have to speak on who made the best bagels in the country, but Tejal Rao has published an article titled 'The Best Bagels Are In California (Sorry, New York)' so, here we are.
I wrote about how bakers in california are making the most extraordinary new york bagels 🥯✨ https://t.co/IYv4yQvcNL

Citing Berkeley's Boichik Bagels, headed by a former New Yorker, as well as San Francisco's Midnite Bagel & Daily Driver, which make sourdough & wood-fired bagels respectively, no New York City water is apparently necessary for the perfect bagel. New Jersey seems to be one of the many who disagree.
Los Angeles spot, Pop's Bagels, also from a former New Yorker & Silver Lake farmer's market sensation turned Virgil Village brick & mortar store, Courage Bagels, also add to the California love from the NY Times piece. The internet is divided about the declaration & New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took the time to denounce it.
