It now looks like repairs to storm-damaged roads in California will be happening much faster than originally thought, thanks to an emergency declaration by Governor Gavin Newsom.
As KNX News' Pete Demetriou reports, Newsom's emergency declaration is aimed at fixing the damage caused by record rainfalls in February and March across the state.
Rick Brewer with Caltrans Public Affairs in Sacramento says spending up to $10 million on repairs can begin immediately.
"With this declaration [Friday], California can apply for and be given reimbursement of 100% of the amount of money that we're spending in order to make those roads safe and travelable again," Brewer said.

Among the local high-priority tasks would be clearing over 9 million pounds of debris from Topeca Canyon Road.
The hope is that the road will reopen far sooner than the original projected date of late fall this year.
