It was a heartbreaking loss for the Torrance all-star team at the Little League World Series after falling to Ohio 4-2 Thursday ending their run for the championship.

The game was a rematch of Torrance's Aug. 22, 9-0 victory in the modified double-elimination tournament.

This year’s Little League World Series was limited to U.S. teams due to the coronavirus pandemic. Little League International has 16 teams play in the annual tournament. Normally, only the champion from eight U.S. regions would advance. This year, two teams from each region played in the tournament.

Although sad for the team, James Han, a fundraiser for Torrance, said the boys played their hearts out. Han added that the team was able to bring the community together.

“And we’re so proud of them,” Han said. “We’re going to rally behind them and welcome them home. They represented us so well, so all we can say is thank you. Thank you to the boys for a great run. We enjoyed every minute with them.”

In fact, Han is working with the Torrance City Council to hold a “welcome back” for the boys and possibly a parade.

The Torrance all-star team was the first team from L.A. County to play in the Little League World Series since 1994. They would have been the first team from the county to win the tournament since Granada Hills National Little League in 1963.
