
Torrance Little League has won the first game of the Little League World Series. The team defeated Hooksett, New Hampshire 10 to 2.
Torrance Little League was the first team from Los Angeles County since 1994 to play in the Little League World Series.
City News Service reported that Torrance is in the Little League World Series because Little League International decided to limit the World Series to U.S. teams, citing the COVID-19 pandemic. Torrance was the runner-up in the West Region.
Head coach Ollie Turner told KNX 1070 to play in the Little League World Series is a dream come true.
"Torrence Little League has never been this far so it's really special," he said. "These kids are good ball players and we're just living the dream out here."
In order to keep teams safe, players and coaches will be isolated, according to the LA Times. Invited family and friends will be allowed at the game.
Torrance will play against New Hampshire on Thursday at 4 p.m. All games will be televised by either ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC.
