Thursday marks the official start of Memorial Day weekend travel, and some people are headed to LAX to get an early start on the long weekend.

KNX News’ Jon Baird spoke with travelers about how they’re preparing for crowds at the airport.

“Well, I'm fine with it,” one man said. “I'm actually a retired employee of United, so I've got access to what the loads look like. They are full, but showed nine seats available getting out of here to San Francisco, so I'm optimistically confident.”

Another traveler said she has TSA Pre-Check.

“We can't complain, so we get through quicker,” she said.

One man heading to Japan said he flew into LAX a day early.

“I came here to LAX, stayed one night ahead because I didn't want a busy weekend,” he said. “I was like [the flight] can get delayed or something, so I might come the day before, so don't miss these flights going over there.”

The Automobile Club of Southern California is expecting record-breaking Memorial Day travel this year, with 3.6 million people predicted to be traveling. Of those millions, 382,000 are expected to fly to their holiday destination.
