Two teens arrested in connection with Torrance mall shooting

TORRANCE, Calif. (KNX) — Torrance police announced Saturday they had arrested two suspects in connection with a Dec. 14 shooting near the Del Amo Fashion Center and a subsequent carjacking. Both were identified as teenagers.

Los Angeles police arrested the first suspect on Jan 4. The second was arrested shortly thereafter by another, unspecified law enforcement agency.

At around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 14, Torrance police responded to a report of a shooting near the mall in the south parking lot of BJ’s Restaurant, located at 3525 West Carson Street.

While on the scene, a report came in of a carjacking and robbery at a nearby Dave and Buster’s restaurant, at the south end of the mall.

"Officers discovered the suspects from the shooting near BJ's Restaurant had fled south from the shooting area and committed a carjacking [and] robbery of an unrelated victim to the shooting," said Torrance police Sgt. Mark Ponegalek. "The victim [...] was not injured.”

Three victims from the BJ’s shooting were transported to a local hospital for treatment. All were reported to have survived the encounter.

The two suspects were transferred to the custody of Torrance olice on Thursday and were arrested and book on suspicion of murder and armed robbery. Their names have been withheld due to their minor status.
