“We are so grateful for our community’s overwhelming support for Adrian,” the post read. “We will have more to say in the coming days and weeks as we continue to pursue justice for the injuries and trauma caused by the federal government’s unlawful actions.”
Martinez’s arrest on June 17th was captured on video and went viral. It showed agents struggling with Martinez while someone yells that 'he’s a U.S. citizen.'
His family says he stepped in to defend an elderly worker being questioned.
U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli posted on X the next day, saying that Martinez was “arrested for an allegation of punching a border patrol agent in the face after he attempted to impede their immigration enforcement operation.”
USBP Chief Patrol Agent Gregory K. Bovino shared Essayli’s post, writing, “Once again, a false narrative is and was being pushed out on the arrest of a U.S. citizen in Pico Rivera, CA.”
No assault charges have been filed.
