Top USC basketball recruit Alijah Arenas, who was seriously injured in a Winnetka car crash last week and was briefly in a medically induced coma, has been released from a hospital, his family said Wednesday.
According to the family, the 18-year-old Arenas, a Chatsworth High School basketball star and son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, "is now resting comfortably under close watch."

"While his journey to full recovery is just beginning, his spirit remains strong and he is surrounded by love and support," according to the family. "The Govan and Arenas family are preparing for the road ahead with faith and determination, committed to nurturing Alijah back to 100%. He remains blessed, resilient and in high spirits."
Arenas, considered one of the nation's top college basketball recruits, crashed his Tesla Cybertruck into a tree and fire hydrant in the 7900 block of Corbin Avenue shortly before 5 a.m. April 24.
Arenas was already out of the vehicle when fire crews arrived. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, the LAFD's Margaret Stewart told City News Service.
According to the family, several good Samaritans helped pull Arenas from the truck before fire crews arrived.
Alijah Arenas' father, Gilbert Arenas, played basketball at Ulysses S. Grant High School in Valley Glen, where his number 25 was retired by the school. Gilbert Arenas played 11 years in the NBA and was a three-time All-Star.
