The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) who killed 21-year-old Estephen Hernandez in Compton in 2017.
Homicide Bureau detectives held a press conference on Tuesday in front of a makeshift memorial where Hernandez was murdered. Hernandez's mom, Lydia Gonzalez, and sister were in attendance.
On Sept. 28, 2017, Hernandez and a female person were parked in his car on the 1100 block of East 148th Street when they were shot, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Witnesses described the suspect car as “a black sedan that was last seen traveling westbound East 148th Street.” No description was available of the suspect(s).
Officials said at the time of his murder, Hernandez was an honor roll student at Cal State University, Long Beach, pursuing a degree in Sociology.
“He was a great individual, good student. He wanted to be a counselor. Another thing he did was, he was a group mentor for incoming students in the college,” said Lieutenant Dean.
"Please, if anyone knows something, speak up. Don’t stay quiet so that no mother endures what I’ve been suffering every day of my life,” said Lydia Gonzalez in Spanish.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
