Authorities announced a $10,000 reward Tuesday for information leading to the person or people responsible for the death of a young woman who was shot while driving in the South Los Angeles area last summer.

Raejonette Morgan, 22, was driving her white Mercedes toward the Vermont Avenue on-ramp to the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway at about 7:45 p.m. July 2, 2024, when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone opened fire.

The driver's side of Morgan's car was riddled with bullets, and the vehicle crashed onto a nearby sidewalk. The suspect vehicle fled the scene south on Vermont.

Morgan died at a hospital two days after the shooting.

"We urge anybody who has any information about Raejonette's murder to please, please come forward," Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said at a news conference announcing the reward. "Raejonette was a kind, compassionate young woman. She had a very special bond with her mother, loved to cook and was studying criminal justice at Los Angeles City College."

Investigators described the suspect vehicle as a 2016 to 2018 blue Honda Civic with custom rims and rear window slats. Sheriff's officials said the shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity.

"Raejonette was full of life with so much more to give and experience," her mother, Anginette Morgan, said. "To the persons who took her from us, you didn't just take my only daughter, you stole a piece of our family, her friends and the countless lives she touched."

She added, "To those responsible, turn yourself in. What you've done cannot be undone, but facing the consequences is the first step toward making things right."

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be made through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
