"As she exits the vehicle, she is shot by the driver," Lieutenant Steve DeJong of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department explained.
“She stumbled toward the sidewalk and collapsed," DeJong added. "Since it was 1:55 in the morning, most of the residents in the area were asleep. Some were woken by the thought of the sound of a gunshot, while others believed it was fireworks. Unfortunately, no one called the Sheriff’s department to report what they heard.”

Her body was later discovered on Oak Street near Long Beach Boulevard at 6:00 AM.
DeJong also shared that Gonzalez was a devoted mother, stating, "Investigators learned Irene Gonzalez was a mother who cared deeply for her two sons and was known to always put her sons before herself."
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

Authorities are specifically seeking a 2014 to 2018 black Toyota Camry with a sunroof. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
