A Burbank comic book shop owner is totaling thousands of dollars in losses after a smash-and-grab burglary on Sunday morning.

It was reported at House of Secrets Comics, located on W. Olive Ave. Owner Paul Grimshaw told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou the damage was extensive.

“Broken glass everywhere, an empty showcase, a wall full of emptiness, and some peculiar items stolen,” he said.

He believes that around $80,000 worth of comic books was taken.

It doesn't take much, a couple of boxes, and that'll quite easily amount to that amount,” he said.

The most expensive item taken – a Spiderman Three comic book.

“There were numerous other books that were in the $1000 range, but the Spiderman Three is probably the most expensive [as a] $10,000 - $11,000 book,’ he said.

Grimshaw added that before the theft, he was in the process of setting up video cameras to cover the inside of his store.

While Burbank police are looking for video evidence that could show how the burglars escaped, Grimshaw is putting out the word in the collectors' community to find the missing items.
