A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck near Malibu Friday afternoon, and the U.S. Geological Survey reported a series of aftershocks, with the largest measured at magnitude 3.0.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage, but Ventura County Fire spokesman Andy Van Sciver told KNX News Chief Correspondent Charles Feldman that the department was being proactive about their response.

“We currently put our department on an earthquake alert, which is basically we’re out monitoring the area,” he said. “We start by rolling our fire engines out of the fire station just in case there is a second earthquake or a second aftershock that could more significantly damage the building, and then after we've secured our equipment outside, we’ll the cruise the neighborhoods, looking for any damage that has not been reported.”

He said the department hadn’t received any reports of damage within the hour after the quake.
