More than a month into their ongoing strike, hundreds of video game actors picketed outside the Warner Bros. Games offices in Burbank on Wednesday, demanding protections for artificial intelligence use.

SAG-AFTRA Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland says that if actors don’t get the protections they’re asking for, the future of video game work is in danger.

“The studios, the streamers, the record labels, all the major companies in the entertainment industry are getting on board with the principles of informed consent and fair compensation, and there’s really no justification for these video game companies not doing that,” he told KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian.

He said AI is the only issue that hasn’t been solved in this round of negotiations. AI was also a sticking point in last year’s film and TV actors’ strike.

“There is a real connection and throughline with all of the AI issues between the studios, the streamers, all of our contracts involving performers,” Crabtree-Ireland said. “It is significant because holding the line on these issues is crucial to the future of having a career as a performer.”
