A Watts holiday tradition brought smiles to the faces of hundreds of children on Thursday.
Longtime activist Sweet Alice Harris sat on her porch with Santa as busloads of students from 10 local schools pulled up to grab brand new bikes provided by Parents of Watts.
“This is the 63rd year,” Harris said. “I read in the Bible, whatever you do for the least one of these, I did. God said you’re working for me and I’m gonna pay you. I know he’s gonna pay you, because he let me get to 91 and I'm still doing it.”
Harris said she remembered sitting on the curb and crying as a child because she didn’t get any Christmas gifts.
“I said it ain’t gonna never happen to mine,” she said. “Never, never, never.”

One student named Skyler told KNX News’ Karen Adams she was excited to pick up her bike.
“I’ve been asking my mom to get a bike for a year,” one child said. “So now that I’m getting a bike right now, my mom can scratch out a bike for Christmas.”
300 bikes were given away at the event.
