The 99 Ranch Market in Westwood reopened nearly a week after an elderly driver lost control of her car and the vehicle rolled right into the bakery section of the store. Three people died, and six others were injured.

KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that the doors opened just before 8 a.m. Some people who live in the area say they’re happy to see the store reopen.

“It's great because it gives a lot of selection and some supplies for groceries that a lot of people don't have access to in this area,” one woman said.

Baird also spoke with Rana, who knew one of the victims, Leonel, who was working at the store at the time of the crash.

“It was the saddest moment for us because we've known him for a long time and he was a very good person, very good guy, always laughing, always working hard with two sons,” she said.

Other people, however, have raised safety concerns about drivers speeding along Westwood Boulevard and the lack of enforcement.

“There's many children passing by, many mothers with their strollers passing by, so it's dangerous, and that the driver was not doing it intentionally, but it was kind of very sad,” one resident said.

The crash remains under investigation.
