Six months after the Palisades and Eaton fires destroyed their homes, survivors are demanding that state leaders hold insurance companies accountable.

Survivors and members of the Eaton Fire Survivors Network gathered outside the Good Neighbor Bar in Altadena on Monday, where they wrote postcards to state leaders demanding that they hold insurance companies accountable.

“We want Governor Newsom and Commissioner Laura that they complete the investigation, pay Eaton and Palisades fire survivors what we're owed before considering another billion-dollar windfall for State Farm,” Joy Chan is co-founder of the Eaton Fire Survivors Network told KNX News’ Karen Adams.

Zaire Calvin lost his sister and two family homes in the Eaton Fire. He says insurance companies are taking advantage of a “community who just lost everything.”

“Insurance companies like State Farm are predatory just like the people who are trying to steal our lands,” he said.

Ginny Campmeyer, whose home was left heavily contaminated with toxic substances,  said State Farm has not paid her what she’s owed.

“So far, they've mostly lied to me,” she said. “From day one they have been lying to me about things that should be covered in my policy, and they've just said no we don't cover that or no we're not going to pay for that and then I have to fight them for months to ask for them to just cover the things that are in my policy. I'm not trying to get more than what I deserve.”

The Eaton Fire Survivors Network has documented more than 400 cases of delays, denials, and underpayments.
